The Dr Mary Strangman Large Room
The Dr Mary Strangman Large Room
The venue was originally designed as a classic eighteenth-century ballroom with lofty ceiling, decorative stucco work, crystal chandeliers, a musicians gallery and well proportioned windows. It evoked the grandeur and elegant living of the gentry and wealthy merchant classes of Georgian Waterford. One of the earliest references to the ballroom was in 1792 when the mayor hosted a ball to raise funds to provide food and fuel for the poor of the city.
Most performances take place at this acoustically excellent venue in City Hall, Waterford. It houses Waterford Music’s own Steinway Model C. We occasionally hold concerts in Garter Lane Arts Centre or the Edmund Rice Centre.
