Waterford Music is pleased to present the Ora String Quartet, in association with The National String Quartet Foundation. With International Women’s Day coming just three days after our concert, we’re very happy to be staging a performance by an all-female quartet, who are bringing us a programme that celebrates women composers.
The Ora Quartet’s performance is being delivered in conjunction with the Finding A Voice Festival, a music festival taking place in Clonmel which shines a spotlight on the music of female composers. The programme takes us back almost 100 years, with pieces from Elizabeth Maconchy and Florence Price, and then brings us right up to date with pieces by Caroline Shaw and Ailbhe McDonagh.
Siun Milne is a member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and has performed with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, The Vanbrugh Quartet and Callino String Quartet. She recently performed Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
Molly O’Shea was chosen as one of five young musicians to take part in Limerick University Concert Hall’s Rising Stars Concert in 2021. She is a member of the First Violin section of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
Ali Comerford, who is originally from Kilkenny, is an award-winning violist who has premiered works at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2023 she was awarded the Resonate Residency for the National Opera House.
Yseult Stockdale Cooper is a highly-regarded cellist who favours the intimacy of playing with smaller ensembles. She is a versatile performer, having toured with the Vanbrugh Quartet, Ficino Ensemble, the rock band BellX1 and the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
