Róisín O’Grady & Billy O’Brien
The Dr Mary Strangman Large Room • City Hall
Waterford Music’s fourth autumn concert features two stalwarts of the Waterford classical music scene, soprano Róisín O’Grady and pianist Billy O’Brien, Róisín is a versatile performer, having recently serenaded Gilbert O’Sullivan during his Freedom of the City ceremony at Waterford City Hall. Billy O’Brien founded the Waterford Chamber Music Festival, which launched during the summer with great success.
Róisín and Billy will perform a programme that blends classic operatic repertoire with newer composers. There will be pieces from romantic composers like Berg and Ravel, as well as intriguing pieces by Scriabin and Annie Paterson. They will also perform pieces by William Walton, who composed for opera, film scores etc., then bring us right up to date with pieces from Irish composer Linda Buckley.
Róisin O’Grady has performed in recital, oratorio and chamber music throughout Ireland and her performance repertoire ranges from the baroque era to modern day compositions. She performs regularly at the National Concert Hall and has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and National Concert Orchestra. Billy O’Brien is also much in demand as a soloist and has appeared with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Hibernian Orchestra and Wexford Sinfonia.
